Nineteen year old me was driving in my car on an open country road headed to my buddy’s place when there was a construction site that drew the traffic to one lane. I stopped and about a minute later I saw a gold mercury 4 door in my rear view mirror. It was getting closer and closer without stopping. About a second later BAM. I was rear ended. Luckily, I didn’t have to go to the hospital but I did end up in urgent care. I’m 19, I’m fine. The next day, no I wasn’t. I was hurting so bad. My parents were telling me I had to take care of the car insurance stuff. I was telling them, “I’m so darn hurt I honestly don’t even have time or the patience to talk to an insurance adjuster.”
I didn’t ask for any of this. It just happened.
That’s when I was able to get some help from my brother in law, Alex Begum, who happened to be one of the best personal injury lawyers around. Before he helped me out I didn’t truly know what he did. I know he helped people who were victims of car crashes and other personal injuries but I truly didn’t know what all that really meant.
What I went through and what I found out was that nobody is there to help you through a crash like this. Nobody really knows what you’re going through. But Alex and his employees at his Law Firm did. Apparently, I’m not the only one that insurance companies have tried to take advantage of.
What I went through can be best summarized as this:
I focused on myself and they took care of the rest.
It opened my eyes to a career where I can truly make a difference in other people’s lives. At the time, I was working at the Apple Store and the guiding principle there was: “Enrich People’s Lives.” I saw the same principles being implemented in what I went through. A career where you can care deeply about what you do and make an impact.
That’s what I wanted.
So that’s what I did! After I graduated from Trinity, I then went to St. Mary’s University Law School where I got my JD/MBA. I passed the Bar and started Dacbert Law right away.
Ever since I got sworn in, I promised myself to always care. To always bring clarity to a process that is frankly alien. No one asks to be in a car crash and they suddenly find themselves in one. Just like when I was in a crash and was given the clarity I needed. I want to do the same for others. I want them to know that I’ve got their back and to know that I care about them.
I hope this helps with what I do everyday.
I want my clients to focus on themselves and for me to take care of the rest.
